What is Sinopharm COVID-19 Vaccine?

Sinopharm is the sixth vaccine to be authorised by the World Health Organization (WHO) for its emergency use listing, and received WHO validation for its safety, efficacy and quality.

WHO has thoroughly assessed the data on quality, safety and efficacy of the Sinopharm vaccine and has recommended its use for people aged 18 and above.

As part of our national effort to encourage the population to get vaccinated against COVID-19, Healthway Medical Group will be offering Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine at selected GP clinics in Singapore.

How does the Sinopharm COVID-19 Vaccine work?

While Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty and Moderna are messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines, Sinopharm uses an inactivated virus to fight against COVID-19.

The Sinopharm COVID-19 Vaccine works like traditional vaccines, where it introduces a weakened version of COVID-19 virus, which triggers our immune system to fight the virus.

Frequently asked questions about Sinopharm COVID-19 Vaccines

I had side effects from my previous dose of mRNA vaccine, can I take Sinopharm as the booster dose?

As per MOH’s guidelines (updated on 13 Jan), mRNA vaccines are the recommended vaccines for patients who require booster vaccination, unless medically ineligible for the mRNA vaccine.

For individuals who request for Sinopharm vaccine as their booster dose, our team of dedicated doctors will assess each patient to determine their suitability. For more information about booster shots, click here.

What is the difference between Sinopharm COVID-19 Vaccine and other vaccines such as Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna?

The mRNA COVID-19 vaccines such as Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna function by injecting COVID-19 genetic code into our bodies; the injected genetic code is used to make proteins which look like the COVID-19 virus. Our immune system then learns to recognise and fight these proteins, building our immunity against COVID-19.

On the other hand, Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine introduces a weakened version of COVID-19 virus, which triggers our immune systems to fight the virus.

How do I make changes to my vaccination appointment?
